The 2nd Kitzbüheler Horn Bike Attack took place during the 71. Österreich Rundfahrt. A separate race on the last stage day. At that race you “only“ had to climb at the Kitzbüheler Horn, Austria’s steepest cycling mountain. Around 150 cyclists rode the 7.1km and 874hm in ideal conditions. The maximum gradient of up to 22.3% demanded everything from all athletes.
The later winner Pammer Rene, the second Hoffman Wolfgang and myself attacked immediately after the start. Instantly we had a gap against our rivals. I had to let them ride before the toll station, because the rhythm was a bit too fast for me. Currently I am not the lightweight in cycling, so perhaps I had more respect from the mountain than before. I divided my power for the middle part well until I rode full speed for the last 2km. With the maximum ramp of 22.3% I had no problem. Until the finish I had a good push on the pedal and finished the race as 3rd in a time of 33:17.
